This Month's Featured Instructor and Nutritionist - Ilana Katz

My individual meal planning sessions are based on my own journey with weight struggles, proven scientific research and the success of hundreds of my clients. Unlike the cookie cutter diet plans out there, individualized meal plans do not include deprivation, restriction, appetite suppressants, or any supposed magic weight loss promises. There are no quick fixes. For successful weight loss, a plan that is appropriate and maintainable for a lifetime is the only way to go.
I created my philosophy by examining the most popular diets and trends over time, from the grapefruit (magic ingredient type diets) to the low carb revolution, metabolic and blood typing, and beyond. I surveyed people visiting my website and many of my clients on their diet history and then I asked the age old question: Did you keep the weight you lost off? The answers were always the same – they followed the diet they chose, they lost some weight, and no matter how much weight was lost, it always came back.
For every diet out there the results were always the same. No lasting results, no realistic lifestyle. Willpower eventually faded and old habits were back on track. Furthermore, most of these dieters lost muscle mass instead of fat. This means they landed up lowering their metabolic potential for burning calories in the future too. Muscle is our most metabolic active tissue, and by losing muscle, you lose the potential to burn more calories. Every pound of muscle burns about 50 calories per day.
My goal is to take the individuals lifestyle and tweak changes in their daily diets for an increased metabolism without the restriction and deprivation that ultimately leads to failure.
Individualization, also means appropriate and maintainable choices that can be incorporated with success for life.
